Social workers are regulated health professionals who work with individuals, families, groups and communities to improve individual and collective wellbeing. They are interested in the connection between broader social issues and structures impacting peoples' lived experience, especially as it relates to peoples' physical, mental, emotional, and social health. Social workers collaborate with clients to develop the knowledge, capacity, and skills necessary to attend to challenges and transitions they experience.

At Whole Sum Wellness, Emily will provide counselling and psychotherapy using an integration of several therapeutic interventions that best suit client's presenting concerns. As a rule, social workers (including Emily) cannot diagnose disorders or prescribe medication. If you need a formal psychological assessment, are seeking a diagnosis, or advice about medications, please contact a psychologist or psychiatrist.

My Practice

Over the past ten years, I have worked with individuals and groups across the lifespan, ranging from children to older adults, in various non-profit, social service, and healthcare settings.

In my current practice, I support individuals aged 7+ with mental health issues, anxiety, burnout, grief/bereavement, stress, and trauma. I also work with people who are experiencing challenges related to gender identity, sexual orientation, and relationships. Understanding mental health from a (w)holistic perspective, I recognize physical, psychological, social, structural, and spiritual factors impact wellbeing. Using a trauma-informed and collaborative approach, I will work with you to explore your values, priorities, and strengths to figure out how we can integrate them into your healing journey. I incorporate evidence-based treatments, mainly deriving from narrative, parts work/ego state, EMDR, SSP, emotionally-focused, and acceptance and commitment therapies. That said, I am open to your feedback and we can adjust our approach to our therapeutic work as needed.

I look forward to connecting with you!

My Education

I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in Psychology and Sexuality Studies in 2019 and a Master of Social Work degree in 2023 from Carleton University. I continue to evolve my practice through regular supervision and professional consultation as well as attending trainings focussing on various therapeutic modalities.

My Certifications and Professional Development

I am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSSSW) as well as a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.

I have certifications in Safe Talk, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, and Motivational Interviewing. I also have extensive training in Grief Counselling through Laurier University’s Social Work Professional Development Program. Most recently, I have competed training in Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I receive regular supervision and professional consultation.
